An adaptation of one scene from the greatest comic book ever produced, Watchmen. This was made as the first project in a video class in college. The assignment was intended as practice on the cameras and editing equipment. This is what I made. It was not made for youtube or the internet. That being said, I hope you enjoy. |

Sex and violence in Watchmen 42 minutes ago Watchmen star Carla Gugino has insisted that the violence of the graphic novel has not been diluted for the big screen. Carla, who plays Sally Jupiter in the film, said that the cast didn't shy away from the sex and violence of the original material. She revealed: "When you think of a movie that's adapted from a graphic novel, it's usually about simplifying things. Recently with The Dark Knight and a couple of different ones, we've gotten to get a bit more texture in there. Watchmen is such a vast graphic novel that it had to be a movie - we couldn't soften it so there's a lot of intense rape scenes, a lot of really intense material." Director Zack Snyder added that loyalty to the original graphic novel provided extra pressure. "I'm a fan myself so I'm pretty hard on myself as far as the material goes so I hope that the fans appreciate that," he said. However, Patrick Wilson, who plays Nite Owl, said the devotion of the fans was exciting. "We're blessed with that amount of fans and that following and some people could look at that as pressure - but I sort of welcomed that," he said. "At least you know people were dying for it to be made right and that's great." |

Watchmen is a twelve-issue comic book limited series created by writer Alan Moore, artist Dave Gibbons, and colorist John Higgins. The series was published by DC Comics in single issues during 1986 and 1987, and has been subsequently reprinted in collected form. Watchmen originated from a story proposal Moore submitted to DC featuring superhero characters that the company had acquired from Charlton Comics. As Moore's proposed story would have left many of the characters unusable for future stories, managing editor Dick Giordano convinced the writer to create original characters instead. Moore used the story as a means to reflect contemporary anxieties and to deconstruct the superhero concept. Watchmen takes place in an alternate history United States where the country is edging closer to a nuclear war with the Soviet Union, freelance costumed vigilantes have been outlawed and most costumed super-heroes are in retirement or working for the government. The story focuses on the personal development and struggles of the protagonists as an investigation into the murder of a government sponsored super-hero pulls them out of retirement and eventually leads them to confront a plot by one of their own to stave off nuclear war by killing millions of innocent people. Creatively, the focus of Watchmen is on its structure. Gibbons used a nine-panel grid layout throughout the series and added recurring symbols such as a blood-stained smiley face.
